**Village Fete 2022: Giving Back**

We very much hope that you’ll come and support the return of our village fete for the first time since 2019. We’re committed to giving back to our community as well as fundraising for the upkeep of the hall, this year we’re supporting two local charities – the Chiltern Foodbank and the Chilterns Dog Rescue Society.

Chiltern Foodbank

At present 20% of the population live below the poverty line and this throws into sharp focus the work of the Chiltern Foodbank, who through the efforts of their committed volunteers try to ensure those most in need do not go hungry.

The Chiltern Foodbank, now in its tenth year of operations, aims to provide help where it’s needed most in the form of emergency food parcels delivered directly to people in the Chiltern and Wendover Districts.

Chilterns Dog Rescue Society

Chilterns Dog Rescue Society, a local independent Rescue and Rehoming centre, was founded in 1963 and has rehomed tens of thousands of dogs in the local area.

In 2017 the society moved into their first dedicated home – a purpose-built rescue centre in Chivery, near Tring. Through the launch of their new location, Chilterns Dog Rescue Society can now provide veterinary care and specialist training to dogs that need it the most.

You can read more about the Chiltern Foodbank and the Chilterns Dog Rescue Society in our Fete Programme, which you should have received from our doorknock volunteers this week. If they missed you, please feel free to pick up a copy of the programme on the day.

Jubilee Tea thanks and upcoming Village Fete

A massive thank you to everyone who supported our Jubilee Tea at the hall on Sunday – we had just the one cupcake 🧁 left!

Huge thanks also to our team of willing helpers who set up, served, cleared and took everything down again.

Next up: the return of our Traditional Village Fete, Fun Dog Show and Classic Car & Motorbike Show on 25th June.

Classic cars, Hemel Hempstead Band, real ale festival and Pimms bar, BBQ,
welly wanging, ice creams, kids’ fancy dress competition, tug-of-war, teas &
cakes, best decorated cake competition, kids’ corner, face painting, tombola,
raffle, bouncy castle and lots more.

New for 2022: Platinum Jubilee Cake Decorating Competition, please bring decorated cakes to the hall by 12 noon on the day. They will be judged and then gratefully received for the tea & cake stall. All non-decorated cakes also gratefully received for the stall. You wouldn’t believe how much cake we get through!

Annual fête ‘door-knock’, 15-19 June

Every year, volunteers from the village fête committee visit homes in Bellingdon and Asheridge to see if you have any donations you can kindly offer to our fête.

Items gratefully received include: Bottles of wine, raffle and tombola prizes, good condition toys, board games and books.

We will also give you both a free fête programme and an opportunity to buy some raffle tickets, which offer some great prizes.

Questions? fete@bellingdon.com and we’ll do our best to help!

Volunteers Week 1-7th June

Bellingdon and Asheridge Village Hall and the Community Association rely extensively on volunteers. We’d like to take the opportunity of Volunteers’ Week to say a massive thank you to all those who help us. We really couldn’t do it without you.

All our trustees are volunteers, giving their time and expertise for free for the good of the community and the upkeep of the hall and grounds.

You may not know but we have a rota of people who open and close the front gate each morning and evening to keep the premises secure.

Our Annual Village Fete, Fun Dog Show and Classic Car Show, this year on 25th June, is run entirely by volunteers – both the committee, that starts work before Christmas of the previous year, and those who turn up year in, year out, to put out banners, do the annual doorknock, sort the donations, set up the field, run the stalls and take everything down again afterwards. If you’re interested in finding out more about how you can help at the fete please contact us.

The extremely popular tea & cake events (do come to our Jubilee tea this Sunday 5th June) pub nights, children’s Christmas party and seniors’ Christmas party are planned, stocked, cooked for and staffed by those who want to make the hall a valuable community resource.

Our quarterly print newsletter is distributed around both Bellingdon and Asheridge by volunteers. The website, eNewsletter and social media accounts are run by volunteers.

The hall and grounds would simply not be able to exist if it were not for those community minded folk who put themselves out to keep it running.

If you are interested in helping with any of the above, in however small a way, please do get in touch. We’re very friendly, definitely don’t bite, and would welcome any help at all.

If you would like to find out more about how the community association works, or even becoming a trustee please do come along to our AGM on 13th July.
