St John’s Service 3rd May

Dear all

I’ve uploaded the service for St John’s Bellingdon for Sunday 3rd May onto Youtube. This week we’re starting with our series on the Beatitudes and this weeks readings are:

Acts 2 42:end

Matthew 5:1-12

This link should take you there https://youtu.be/bUYL0-VSMLA

As before those with internet linked televisions you should be able to watch it there and find it by searching but only after 09.45 tomorrow when it goes public (and live) but the link should work or you can look for the Great Chesham YouTube channel!

The plan is as before – to follow the service at 10.00 on Sunday – but of course you can be flexible!

Also attached are the St Mary’s Notice sheet and the Parish Notice sheet for this week.

Also you might be interested in the virtual Prom Praise concert this evening at 7.30pm called “a festival of hope”.

The annual All Souls Prom Praise at the Royal Albert Hall would have been this evening, were it not for lockdown. The theme they felt led to choose months ago for this evening was ‘to the ends of the earth’ – little did they know then God’s plans for that leading!

We’ll be taking donations of bric a brac, wine, games and toys etc nearer the time. Any raffle prizes would also be very welcome. If you can help beforehand or on the day, please do let us know. Fete@bellingdon.com to get in touch with the team.

Tea & cakes: 27th April 3-5pm

Now that Lent is over and we’ve all given up giving things up…come and join us for tea and cakes on a (hopefully) sunny Saturday afternoon at the hall. Great refreshment for tired archers if you’re going to the “have a go” archery event earlier in the day.

All are welcome, anyone who would like to contribute a cake or let us know that they are coming please email Helen.

New Era for Your Horticultural Society

As many of you will be aware, it was with great regret that the Committee members of the Horticultural Society had to take the decision to cancel the Social Evening last October. The reason for this was that, with the departure of Rachel & Brian Watts to Cumbria and the sad loss of Bryan How, we simply do not have enough Committee members to run this type of event.

Despite several attempts to recruit new committee members, both before and since the Watts house move, no new members have stepped forward and so we, the remaining five committee members, are faced with a choice:

  • Fold the Society – we could not run either the Annual Show or Social with such a small number of committee members and we really did not want to do this especially as the society is now in its 70th year, or
  • Look for a new way forward.

So we took the decision to approach Chesham Horticultural Society, we were aware that they were having similar difficulties and we wanted to ascertain whether there was potential to merge the two societies.

They were very open to the idea and so we put this to the vote at the AGM in March and it was carried unanimously. The proposal for this year is to simply combine events, without a full merger, with a view to merging the two Societies constitutionally in 2020.

This will involve the renaming of the combined societies and we would welcome your input on this. Ideas so far are: CAB Leisure Gardeners Club (CAB standing for Chesham Asheridge & Bellingdon), CAB Gardeners Club or Chesham and Villages Garden Club. Please let us know your thoughts.

We all see this as a positive step forward for both Societies and an opportunity to increase both membership and the number of events we can put on for our members. We hope you feel the same way and will support us enthusiastically in this, as you have always done.

Please find below a list of combined events for 2019. We look forward to seeing you at any or all of these.
